  • We're moving there around the same time you will be. We have two boys 10 & 12 and I have concerns about the schools as well. We were stationed there years ago but left when my oldest was 1 so we didn't have to worry about that back then. The EFMP program was really good last time we were there you may just need to be firm with them. We're doing our research now as well. If I can help just send me an email: dillybamm@yahoo.com

  • Hi welcome to Schofield we've been stationed here for 4 1/2 years and I work for the school liaison office. I wish I could tell you what you've probably heard isn't true but if you're concerned then I have a feeling you were probably told spot on about the school system. It isn't just bad it's horrific. I tell everyone don't come to Hawaii with school aged children unless you can afford private schooling. It's so bad that even one of the elementary schools ON POST lost its accreditation. They are not DoDEA Schools so you do have a large percent of the local population who bring their children on post to go to school. Wheeler Elementary (across the way) has MORE locals in it then military kiddos! Wahiawa School District cannot be considered I'd literally move before I'd put a kid of mine in it. Regarding your Special Needs child I would immediately go to ACS on post and see what programs they can offer 808-655-4227. You may be surprised what you learn they have a bunch of really cool choices not only for you but your child :)
